Despite being such a small part of a blog, your blog title has an enormous influence on the success or failure of each post you put out into the world. A compelling title is critical for hooking your readers in, and enticing them to read the content you’ve so painstakingly written and research for them.

Without a good title, all that hard work goes to waste…

So let’s get to the nitty gritty; how do you write a blog title that will, first of all, appear in the places your audience looks for information, and secondly, actually encourage your audience to read your work?

  1. Make the most of SEO.

SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is the key ingredient to getting your blogs seen! Want your blogs on supplements to come up when people search for relevant information?

The way to achieve this is by maximising your SEO, so your blogs rank on search engines and appear in people’s searches for information.

Your blog title is a super simple, effective way of maximising your SEO rankings.

You just need to include a keyword in your blog title. For example, if your blog is on supplements to support conception and improve fertility, you might choose “fertility” as your keyword. Your blog title could be “Supplements that can support fertility”, giving it a better chance of appearing in searches targeted around fertility.

As always, keep your readers front of mind. What would your target audience search for? Considering this question can help you identify what SEO keywords you could use in your title to help it rank well and be seen by as many people as possible!

And a handy tip: Google AdWords is a great tool for helping you identify keywords relating to your topic of interest if you’re stuck!

  1. Engaging.

Make the title engaging and attention grabbing! Clearly identify the topic of the blog post, and use words like “simple”, “easy”, “important”, “quick” and other adjectives to hook your reader in!

Always keep your ideal target audience front of mind when writing your blog titles (and your blogs of course!), and consider what words would appeal to them the most.

For example, time-poor mothers may resonate with adjectives like “quick” and “time-saving”.

Make sure your blog title is catchy, and directly appeals to your target readers, and you’ve taken a big step in the right direction!

  1. Short and sweet.

Short and simple is key to an effective blog title. Not only do shorter titles rank better when it comes to SEO, meaning your blog will be seen by more people using search engines, they capture the attention of your audience and encourage them to click through to your valuable content.

To start, come up with a title that is as obvious and straight forward as possible. Something like “Supplements for fertility”. From there, you can edit and enhance it to make it more intriguing.

Think about how you can add intrigue and curiosity to your heading. Using adjectives, and promises are effective tools here, as is suggesting you have exclusive content or information within your blog. Communicate to your reader how your blog post will add value to their life – for example “Supplements guaranteed to improve fertility”.

The easier you make it for them to see the value in reading your blog, and the more you can promise them, the more likely your audience will see your title, and follow through to click into your blog.

  1. Numbers and lists increase traffic.

Numbered blog posts are incredibly effective in helping you get your blogs seen! Lists and numbered content makes your reader more inclined to click into your post, as it makes the content easily digestible, understandable, and quick to consume.

Remember, in our fast-paced world, people want to save time however they can! So break it down for them, make things simple by numbering your key points, and using subheadings so your readers can quickly skim the article, before being convinced to delve deeper into the content it contains.

Readers gravitate towards numbers and lists, so give them what they want by adding a number to your title. “5 supplements guaranteed to improve fertility” is a pretty catchy title…

Coming up with a creative, catchy blog title is critical to ensuring your content is seen by as many people as possible – and particularly by your target audience! The good news is, it doesn’t have to be hard – now you know the most effective way to write your titles, getting your posts seen should be a walk in the park.
